NLF Reels

$69.99 — $99.99

The No-Load Fishing (NLF) reels have some of the most advanced innovations in spinning reels.  Qualia’s design guru, Jack Young, knew that the strength of braided line would put big-time stress on spinning reels. He also knew that extreme fishing required spinning reels to work as well in saltwater as in fresh water. The NLF is his answer to these challenges.

The NLF family has six models, with different spool capacities and three gear ratios.

These reels have several important patented features that deliver extraordinary strength and power:

Balanced Beam Support™: When the mainshaft flexes under heavy load in a conventional spinning reel, it binds within the pinion gear, causing friction that must be overcome with force on the handle. The patented extreme mainshaft support system in the NLF has 2½ times the leverage support of conventional spinning reels, and the contact between the pinion gear and the mainshaft has been completely eliminated. This system ensures that during a heavy fish fight, the only pressure you’re fighting is against the fish, and not the reel.

Flatline Oscillation™: Most spinning reels wind the line unevenly on the spool, causing problems with line tumbling and tangling. This is especially a problem when using braided superlines. The patented Flatline Oscillation system in the NLF makes sure the line lays evenly on the spool, without any loss of shaft strength, even for braid.

More Features: NLF reels have precision-cast aluminum bodies, sideplates and rotors. The pinion gears are machine-cut helical brass. All seven bearings, all springs, screws and the bail wire are made of stainless steel. Reel sizes 20-50 have infinite-stop anti-reverse systems, and reel sizes 60-70 have a one-of-a-kind, 48-stop, double-pawl system for maximum stopping strength.

The wide-range drags are protected from water intrusion by a special gasket seal, and even the bottom of the drag knob is metal to ensure the drag’s reliability when it gets hot during extreme fish fights. Oversized double-molded soft grips keep even the longest fights comfortable.

These are muscular reels with no unnecessary features, whose only purpose is to fish comfortably and relentlessly under demanding conditions, both inshore and offshore.

I had to work Saturday so work gave me off today and I was by myself so no great action photos, but I have to say the reel (NLF-30) you sent me is awesome. It handled this Red very well.

Thanks,

Lou

Wow! What a reel my NLF 60 is just awesome. After using it for Striper Fishing here in SF Bay I can tell you that I love the oversized grip and longer handle. No more tired hands from cranking in 2oz Kastmasters all day with 20lb fish. Also the Flatline Wrap feature is a must for anyone using braided line. No more valley in the middle of the Spool! Keep it up Jack!

The more I use this reel the more I can’t fish without it. I obviously have more than one rod and reel and I hate using the other reels because they feel like jello compared to the NLF-30. I really do love the product and can’t go back to anything else!

Hi Jack,
The reel performed flawlessly! It cast very well, and the drag was as smooth as silk! The weight of the reel is very comfortable, It could be used all day without fatigue. Performs as well as any reel at twice the price!

Both reds were boated within 10 minutes. I spotted both of them working the shoreline. The first one I cast about ten feet in front of him and let the jig sit until he was almost on top of it. Two quick twitches and he nailed it! The second one I chased up and down the bank for about 15-20 minutes and maybe 75 yards! I cast to him three times before he finally ate the shrimp!

Caught a third one…but it was on another reel set up to free-line a shrimp.

Hi Jack,
Just a follow up on the NLF-30, it has perform flawlessly since it’s arrival. I have landed several 30 inch and larger redfish on it without a hitch. The drag is very smooth, no herky jerky drag here! Recently I fished 3 consecutive days without oiling the reels. Remember I fish from a kayak and the reels are subject to much more severe abuse than normal. After the 3rd day the NLF-30 was just a smooth as the day it came out of the box, while the other reel was stiff and noisy. Both reels had been cleaned and lubed with the same lubricant before the first trip out. At half the price of the other reel the NLF-30 easily out performed the other brand.
I would highly recommend this reel to anyone looking for an excellent inshore reel!

I see that Henry is using your reels on Fishing the Flats, congratulations!
